This page tells you about Vuotos-reservoir project that is going on in
Finnish Lappland. Actually Vuotos is a little river that joins the river
Kemijoki, which is the largest river in Finland. River Kemijoki is already
harnessed to produce hydropower and there are two big reservoirs, Lokka
and Porttipahta, in the upper parts of the river. Those were built in 1960's
but for more than 30 years there has been a battle going on to build this
third huge Vuotos-reservoir to the river. River Kemijoki comes to Rovaniemi
from east, and you can easily see those two existing reservoirs in any map
about Finland. Read
these links and you'll know more.
In May-95 we will see a photobook about Vuotos. Photos are taken by Mikko
Junninen and the text is written by Suonna Kononen. This
info is in Finnish as well.
